I have just come back from volunteering in a school in Honduras for a year, and I am type 1 diabetic!
I decided I wanted to explore a part of the world I had never been to before, experience a new way of living, learn about another culture and of course, trying the food! But there was one big question... how would I be able to manage my diabetes?

Well, with lots of planning, I took a year's worth of insulin and other kit with me, and at 17, ! was off on my adventure!
I am really passionate about waking up every morning and being excited to live my life. I really value independence and didn't want diabetes to stop me from living life on my own terms.
I share my own experiences with t1d, and I really want others to believe that they can also follow their dreams without diabetes stopping them!

In Honduras, I learned a lot of amazing things. Including dealing with the cultural differences, learning a new language, and working as a teacher in a school!
I had help from both my parents, Dawn and Leon, to help me plan my medical stuff to get to Honduras. They are both very supportive and wanted to see me following my dreams.

Ever since diagnosis in 2022 at 14, as a family, we have been writing down all of the carb info in a notebook, and that really helped me in Honduras because I was already used to confidently managing t1d.

So, that's how The Carbculator came to life!
The booklet was designed to make carb counting simpler and easier so that us type 1 diabetics don't need to be thinking about diabetes all the time, we can just get on with our wonderful lives whilst managing t1d with the right tools.
It started off as a little notebook, and now it's a tool that can be shared with others who also have type 1 diabetes!
